Can I use your paint over epoxy?
Yes. You don't need to use a primer base coat. Just make sure you clean the
surface. Hot water and plastic scouring pad followed by drying with paper towels
seems to work the best. All epoxies have some amine blush and you need to get all of it off your surface. Amine is water soluble.
What is the best way to apply Kirby's Hull and Deck Marine Paint?
On New and Old work alike, surface should be dry, clean, and free from loose scale. Also the weather should be dry to get maximum finish and gloss. DO NOT THIN PAINT UNLESS NECESSARY, or for a first coat on new wood, stir well with a bringing-to-the-top motion or better still, all paints should be "boxed" into a larger container - i.e., (pouring back and forth). Use less than 1/2 pint paint thinner per gallon. BRUSH OUT EACH COAT WELL giving final coat the maximum "flow" possible. Guard against "heavy" coats. Remove excessive coats of old paint at intervals for the good of your boat and your final paint job. The number of coats each season depends on your own judgement.
What coverage can I expect from Kirby Paint?
Coverage is about 350-400 square feet per gallon.
Does Kirby Paint make custom colors to match?
Yes we do custom colors. Send us a paint chip and we should be able to match the color. We have many colors available that are not in on "standard" color chart.
